Uptimia can send downtime and recovery alerts through several channels beyond email and SMS, including Slack, Microsoft Teams, Telegram, and WhatsApp. These channels are added through integrations. This article explains how integrations fit into Uptimia alerting so you can decide which channels to use and get them notifying the right monitors. For step-by-step setup of a specific channel, see the per-integration guides in Integrations.
How integrations work: channel, then monitor
Every alerting integration in Uptimia follows the same two-part model:
- Add the integration as a contact (notification channel). In your account's integration/contact settings, you connect the channel once — for example, paste a Slack incoming-webhook URL, pair the Telegram bot, or add a WhatsApp number. This creates a reusable contact that represents that destination.
- Attach the contact to the monitors that should notify it. Which contacts a monitor notifies is set per monitor. A channel only receives alerts for the monitors it is attached to. Adding the integration alone is not enough — if a monitor that goes down does not have the channel attached, that channel will not be notified. (Note that timing settings such as alert delay, alerting days/hours, and quiet hours are account-/team-level, not per monitor.)

Attaching contacts per monitor is what lets you reuse one Slack channel or one Telegram chat across many monitors without reconnecting it each time.
Using multiple channels at once
You are not limited to a single channel per monitor. You can attach several contacts to the same monitor so that an incident notifies all of them. For example, a critical monitor might alert by email, post to a Slack channel, and send an SMS at the same time, while a lower-priority monitor only posts to Slack. Mix and match channels per monitor to match how urgently each service needs attention.
Choosing channels
There is no single "best" channel — pick based on where your team already watches for incidents:
- Email and SMS are the simplest and work without connecting an external workspace. SMS is useful for urgent, hard-to-miss alerts.
- Slack and Microsoft Teams are a good fit when your team triages incidents in a shared chat channel.
- Telegram works well for individuals or groups who already use it, via the Uptimia Telegram bot.
- WhatsApp delivers alerts to specific phone numbers, with each recipient added individually.
A common approach is to use a chat channel (Slack or Teams) for visibility across the team plus email or SMS for the people who must be paged directly.
Applying a channel to many monitors
Because contacts are attached per monitor, a channel you want everywhere has to be attached to each monitor that should use it. When creating several new monitors at once, use Bulk Operations: in bulk-create mode, Contacts is a shared setting applied to every monitor in the batch, so you can attach the channel to all of them in one step. For monitors that already exist, contacts are still per monitor — open each monitor's Contacts (Alerting) section and attach the channel; there is no one-click action to add a contact to existing monitors in bulk.
When a channel doesn't deliver
If a channel isn't receiving alerts, work through this checklist before assuming the integration is broken:
- Is the contact attached to the right monitor? Confirm the channel contact is attached to the specific monitor that went down. This is the most common cause of "no alert."
- Did the incident actually happen? Open the monitor's logs and confirm the incident appears there. If Uptimia did not record a down event, no alert would have been sent.
- Re-run a test. Send a test notification from the integrations list to confirm the channel itself is reachable.
- If the test works but real alerts don't, check the saved configuration. A test and live alerts use the same delivery details, so a working test with no live alerts usually points back to attachment (the contact isn't on the monitor that went down) or to a stale destination. For Slack, the saved incoming-webhook URL may have been revoked or its channel deleted in Slack — re-generate the webhook URL and paste the new one into the Slack integration. For Microsoft Teams, suspect a deprecated incoming-webhook connector, which Microsoft has been retiring, so a previously working Teams alert can go silent through no fault of your Uptimia configuration. A failed integration delivery is sent fire-and-forget: it is not retried and is not rerouted to any other channel.

Each integration has its own quirks worth knowing about:
- Slack: if a test works but real alerts never arrive, the saved incoming-webhook URL may be stale or revoked. In Slack, open your app's Incoming Webhooks, re-generate the webhook URL for the target channel, then edit the Slack integration in Uptimia, paste the new Webhook URL, save, and send a fresh test.
- Microsoft Teams: do not rely on creating a new classic incoming webhook, as Microsoft has been retiring these connectors. Contact support to confirm the current recommended Teams setup.
- Telegram: always start the bot from the exact link shown on the Telegram integration screen in Uptimia — searching for the bot by name can return nothing or the wrong bot.
- WhatsApp: verify every recipient number individually with its own test, and confirm recovery messages too — one number can be consistently skipped while others work. Store numbers in full international format.
If alerts still don't arrive
First, double-check that the channel contact is attached to the specific monitor that went down — a channel only alerts for the monitors it is attached to. If you have confirmed the attachment, the incident appears in the monitor's logs, and a fresh test still doesn't fix live delivery, contact Uptimia support and include the integration name, the affected monitor, and the incident timestamp so the team can trace it.
