The Twitter/X integration lets Uptimia post monitor status updates to your Twitter/X account, so your followers stay informed when a monitored service goes down or recovers. To set it up, you'll need an API Key and an API Secret from the Twitter Developer Portal.
Before You Start
You need a Twitter/X account with access to the Twitter Developer Portal. The integration authenticates using API credentials issued there, so make sure you can sign in to the developer portal with the account you want Uptimia to post from.
Get Your API Key and API Secret
To post on your behalf, the Twitter/X Developer app must have Read and Write permission, and you must supply user-context credentials — an Access Token and an Access Token Secret generated under that app (not the app's Consumer API Key/Secret).
- Sign in to the Twitter Developer Portal.
- Locate (or create) the app you want to use for posting status updates.
- Open the app's settings and confirm App permissions is set to Read and Write.
- Under Keys and tokens, generate an Access Token and Access Token Secret. Regenerate them after setting Read and Write permission, or they will remain read-only and cannot post.
The exact screens in the Twitter Developer Portal change from time to time. If you can't find the credentials, follow the on-screen guidance there or check Twitter/X's developer documentation.
Add the Integration in Uptimia
- Navigate to Integrations from the sidebar.
- Click Add Integration.
- Select Twitter/X from the grid of available integration types.
- Enter an integration name so you can recognize it later (e.g., "Status Updates - Twitter").
- Paste your Access Token into the API Key field and your Access Token Secret into the API Secret field.
- Click Save Integration.
Uptimia uses the values you enter directly as the posting tokens — it does not exchange them — so they must be the write-enabled Access Token and Access Token Secret described above, not read-only credentials.

When you save, Uptimia creates the integration and a matching contact. To start receiving status updates, open a monitor's Alerting tab (or the Contacts page) and assign the new contact to the monitors you want it to post about.
Test the Integration
Always confirm the integration works before relying on it for real alerts. A misconfigured or expired credential will silently fail when an actual incident fires.
- Go to the Integrations list page.
- Click the actions menu (three dots) on the Twitter/X integration.
- Select Test.

A success or failure message appears. A successful test does not currently guarantee that a tweet was actually posted, so check that a real status tweet appeared on the account. If the test fails, double-check that your Access Token and Access Token Secret were copied correctly, that the app has Read and Write permission, and that the credentials are still valid in the Twitter Developer Portal. You can also run a test from the integration editor using the Test button, which is available in edit mode.
Managing the Integration
To update your credentials, open the integration from the list and click Save Integration after making changes. The integration type can't be changed after creation, so if you need a different service, delete this one and add a new integration.
To remove it, select Delete from the actions menu and confirm. Deleting the integration also removes its associated contact from every monitor it was assigned to.
Keep Your Credentials Secure
Your Access Token and Access Token Secret grant access to post on your Twitter/X account, so treat them like passwords and don't share them publicly. If a credential is ever compromised, regenerate it in the Twitter Developer Portal and update the integration in Uptimia with the new values.
